Low Protein, Diabetic Diet Plan FOOD SPECIFICATIONS
Bread and Cereals Allowed; Bread, rolls, porridge, weetbix, cornflakes, biscuits (low sugar), rice Avoid; Sweet biscuits, muffins, tinned spaghetti, muesli, all bran Fruit Allowed: Fresh, no added sugar tinned fruit and juices, no added sugar fruit salad Avoid: Fruit tinned in syrup, candied fruit Vegetables Allowed: All except those to avoid. Fried vegetables allowed Avoid: Baked beans, lentils, dried beans and peas Meat Allowed: All meats as for diabetic diet. Fatty meats are okay. Substitution:
30g Meat = 1 egg= 45g fish
= 30g cold meat
= 30g cheese
= 180ml milk
= 50g cottage cheese
= 150g yogurt
Avoid: Meat in excess of allowance Eggs Allowed: As per specified allowance or as substitute for meat Avoid; Poached, scrambled, boiled or fried
In excess of allowanceMilk Allowed: Cheese, yogurt and all types of milk within allowance, ice cream is okay Avoid: Extra milk, cheese and yogurt Fats Allowed: Margarine (Ordinary and salt free), butter, oil and cream Avoid: Nil to avoid Soups Allowed: Broth Avoid: Cream soups and soups made with dried beans, lentils and rice. Spreads Allowed: Jam (low joule) Avoid: Vegemite, honey, ordinary jam Dessert Allowed: No added sugar/low protein desserts, no added sugar tinned fruit, fruit salad, fresh fruit, low joule jelly, yogurt, cream and ice cream.
Avoid: Ordinary diabetic desserts, ordinary jelly, mousses. Condiments Allowed: Salt, pepper, vinegar, lemon juice, low joule dressing, gravy, tomato and herb sauce Avoid: Tartare sauce Beverages Allowed: Water, tea, coffee with milk from allowance, low joule cordial and soft drink.
